GUIDE: Registration tutorial for Final Fantasy XIV ~A Realm Reborn~ on PS3

UPDATE: Added UK PSN PS4 version free trial information
UPDATE2: The JP PSN Free trial period has ended. However free trial now available from US PSN as well and in English.

As explained in our other post, while Final Fantasy XIV -A Realm Reborn- itself is 100% in English, it is covered with a thin layer of registration process conducted in Japanese. So here's step by step of what you need to do to register yourself on the PS3 version. Exclusive for the PS4 version, free trial available from UK PSN for Plus members and the registration process is completely in English. So you may prefer that one instead.

If you are wondering what you need to get this game from PSN, we already cover it in this post.

After you finished downloading the game off PSN (6.3GB for PS3), install it (it will takes a while). And after the installation finished, you will notice that the title is now in English: Final Fantasy XIV -A Realm Reborn-. Launch and play the game under your Japanese PSN account only. Launching it under another account will prompt you to enter Promotion Code which you don't have. Before continuing any further, make sure your PS3 or PS4 system language is set to English.

The several first screen are in English, including the Square Enix screen that ask you for Square Enix ID. However, the ID we need here is Square Enix Japan ID, not your European or American one. So we need to make new ID here. Choose to create a new account and now is the time for some Japanese, click the pictures to enlarge:

Notice that X and O button action may be swapped, with O as confirmation and X as cancel. You can also use USB keyboard here. Type anything you desire just like any other registration screen. It is suggested to use the same name as your Japanese PSN ID, also same password, and same email (password are case sensitive, and prepare your PC/phone, since you'll need to open your email soon) . Check availability of your name and if the text that pop-out coloured red, then it means it is occupied. Green means available. Click Next when done.

Your email should be displayed on the first line above. Check your inbox to open an email from autoinfo_jp. Your code will be 8 alphanumeric digits such as: ABCD1XYZ. Enter it to the vacant white box, it is case sensitive so make sure you've turned on your Caps-Lock. Click Next when done.

Just a welcome screen. Click Next.

Your Square Enix ID and your Japanese PSN ID will be displayed. If both are the same name, then it will be the same name listed twice. Click Link Account.

This is what you will use your service for. The title said: Final Fantasy XIV -A Realm Reborn- Free Trial PlayStation 3. Just click Next.

This is the Licence Agreement screen, basically means don't share account, don't cheat, and be a good kid online. Check the box and click Next.

Depends on the screen, you may or may not need to scroll down to reach the bottom part where the buttons are. Just click Next after you found them.

Yay! Just click Next.

And we're back in the land of English-speakers. You'll have to download a hefty file (around 10GBs for PS3). Depends on your connection speed, you may need to leave your console turned on and go take a walk in the park. (Disable any auto shutdown feature and do not quit the game)

The next time you enter FF14, you'll be greeted directly into this screen. You will never see any Japanese again. You can't change the ID so just type your password (Case sensitive). Leave the third box empty and click Log In.

When everything is done, you'll be greeted with the title card of the game. Don't worry about the tiny Japanese translation. The game is in English. Don't trust me? Well, uh....

 North American server. Check.

European server. Check.

Choose any servers that isn't Japanese. After that you will immediately be greeted with the gorgeous looking, English-narrated and English-subtitled opening FMV. Enjoy it.

You'll need to create a character now. Notice that it says how many days remaining on the bottom right. I wonder if they will let us keep the game and just purchase a subscription ticket.

Time to put those designing skills into use.

The graphic is gorgeous even for PS3, sadly no voice-overs.

And time to play the first quest.
